Staffing

  • Ms Leilana Ramdeen (English) proceeded on Study Leave for the 2017-18 academic year.  Ms Anna-Alicia Hackett will hold the position for the period.  We wish Ms Ramdeen all the best in her studies.
  • We welcome Ms Meagan Mark (OJT) to Staff.  She will be assisting Ms Chin Soong in the teaching of Physical Education.
  • The following arrangements have been put in place for Dean duties:
    • Ms C. Dwarika and Ms M. Titus will perform duties in Forms 1 and 2,
    • Mrs M. Maharaj-Bhagan will assist Ms S. Hamid in Form 3,
    • Ms L. Vincent and Mrs L. Cassim-Archie will perform duties in Forms 4 and 5,
    • Ms K. John and Mrs M. Phagoo will perform duties in Form 6.

Curriculum

·         This year we have introduced Physical Education and Social Studies (CSEC) and Tourism (CAPE).

·         We were unable to offer Technical Drawing to our Form four students. This was because we were unable to secure a permanent teacher.  Ms Maureen Charles (TIII, retired) had promised us two years and her tenure will end in April 2018.

Finance

  • As you may be aware, due to the downturn in the economy all Ministries have been mandated to cut back on expenditure.  This has negatively impacted the Government Assisted schools like ours in that the already inadequate subventions we receive from Government have been further reduced.  The biggest costs to the school are security ($300,000/year) and salaries for teachers paid from school funds ($180,000/year).   You will realise that these are necessary expenses to ensure that your daughters’ safety and to ensure that there are teachers in the classrooms.   If we are to continue to maintain the high standards that you have come to expect from SJCSF, we have no choice but ask you parents to contribute towards your daughters’ education.  The annual contribution of $600 works out to be a mere $15.38/week (the school year is 39 weeks).  I am appealing to the parents of returning students to please make your contributions.  This will go a long way to alleviate some of the financial burdens at the school and to maintain the high standards you have come to expect at SJCSF.

Infrastructure

  • Vacation works
    • Multimedia room was refurbished by EFCL.  This room was closed off for the last school year due to a suspected mold issue.
    • A room on the Fifth form floor was refurbished to accommodate small classes. Social Studies, PE and Tourism classes are presently held there.
    • Several desks and chairs were repaired.
  • Parents, a lot of money is spent on general repairs…repairs that may not be necessary if your daughters will take better care of school property.  Please assist us by talking to your daughters about care and respect for property.

Communication

  • A reminder of SMS messaging.  You will be sent a text informing you when letters/notices are sent as well as reminders of meetings.  Please note that you will be charged for each text you receive

General

Parents/Guardians, as we embark on yet another year of school life I ask for your continued support and cooperation in having your daughters adhere to school rules and policies that have been put in place to ensure the realisation of our Vision and Mission.  You are to ensure that your daughter is present at school every day and on time.  If you are unsure of anything, kindly refer to the Student and Parent Handbook or feel free to call or visit the school.

I also look forward to your active participation in school life in general and more particularly, involvement in your daughters’ extra-curricular activities.

Parents of SJCSF meetings are held every second Thursday of the month, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.

Included for your information is a summary of the 2017 CAPE and CSEC results.

May God continue to richly bless you all
