July 04, 2014
Dear Parents/Guardians
We have come to the end of the 2013-2014 academic year, a year of transition as there has been a change in Administration. Mrs East and I have worked hard to maintain the high standards set by our predecessor Mrs Bainey, who we thank for her many years of dedicated service to our school. We pray for her health and that she enjoys a long and happy retirement. This has been a year with many, many blessings, both academically and non-academically. We are truly blessed.

Dear Parents,
As you know, the academic year ends on July 05, 2013 and many of you have already planned your vacation. Your daughters would have a fair amount of free time and you are faced with the formidable task of keeping them occupied. I urge you to sit with your daughters and schedule how they should spend this time in a productive manner. This is the opportunity for them to get involved in their community and to learn new skills. It is important that you know about your child’s daily activities, especially their choice of entertainment.
Funeral Arrangements
I wish to inform you that the funeral for the twins, Khadijah and Khertima Taylor will take place at the Revival Time Assembly at King’s Wharf on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. The funeral for Kafiya Gill will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at St. Paul’s Anglican at 10:00 a.m. We have extended condolences to the families on your behalf.
December 03, 2012
Dear Parents,
I wish to thank you and your daughters for the contributions received through the donation sheets. We have received $96,000 so far. I urge the students who have outstanding donation sheets to kindly submit these forms to their Form teachers before school closes. This money will be used to supplement the Ministry''s contribution to our school.
November 07, 2012
Dear Parents,
On behalf of the staff, I wish to thank you for your support which resulted in a very successful production of the musical ‘Once on this Island''. The dedication of members of the VAPA department must be applauded as well as the contribution made by students, teachers and members of the community who assisted in making this a memorable experience for the cast.
Also, I wish to inform you that The Ministry of Education has granted our school a holiday on November 12, 2012 in honour of our Foundress, and for our scholastic achievement.
I do hope that you have an enjoyable weekend with your daughters. To the Hindu members of our school community, I wish you a Shubh Divali.
Yours Sincerely,
Dinna Bainey
Principal (Secondary)
September 05, 2012
Dear Parents,
Your daughters are happy to be back at school and we were delighted to welcome them. I do hope that you had ample opportunity to spend quality time with them as this is so very important. Our Form One and Form Two students are enjoying air-conditioned classrooms this academic year and we hope that this will serve as an incentive for dedicated work.
Academic Issues
We had some excellent results at CSEC and CAPE. I need to bring to your attention that the few students who did not do well at CSEC were the ones who had serious discipline or home problems since Form One.
Food and Nutrition is now offered at sixth form and we continue to look at ways in which we can broaden our curriculum.
', '
Your daughter''s presence in this school indicates a high level of academic ability. The staff here has the competence, qualification and commitment necessary for the success at the examinations your daughter will write. It is imperative that you work with us in providing the environment suitable for learning. Students cannot be expected to excel when the home is tense and good values are not upheld.
Further, I remind you of the need for involvement in extra-curricular and community projects, if your daughter intends to have a transcript that will be acceptable for further study, locally and abroad.
RECOGNITION DAY is carded for October 19, 2012 and Forms 3 to 6 are invited to attend. This function will be held in our parish church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
Financial matters
The Form One, Form Two, and the Pan room classrooms were air conditioned during the vacation. A Dean/Counselor room was also constructed and the perimeter wall on the west of the property was raised. There is still much to do and so we depend very much on continued support. Your voluntary contributions and our fund-raising activities greatly assist in providing the quality education that is the hallmark of this school. Your daughters will continue to benefit from the Human and Social development programmes planned for the academic year. You will also be invited to participate in these sessions.
Staffing
I am pleased to inform you that we have our full quota of teachers on staff. On a more sombre note, I wish to inform you that Mrs. Antoinette Valentine-Lewis, one of our stalwarts will be retiring on September 28, 2012. Our school will be losing a very dedicated and committed teacher and we wish her well in her future endeavours.
Friends of SJC
Our parent group meets every second Thursday in the month in the library from 5:30 pm. I look forward to welcoming you at this meeting and to plan a way forward.
Musical
In commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny''s presence in San Fernando, our school will be staging a musical, "Once on This Island", on the 25th and 26th October, 2012 and 10th and 11th November, 2012. (The dates could change to November 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th if we are successful in securing NAPA, South Campus). We are relying on parents to assist us in purchasing and selling tickets, refreshing the cast members during rehearsals and on the production days, as well as providing transportation so that this event will be a success. We also need assistance from makeup artists and volunteers to work backstage. If there is any area that you can render assistance kindly contact Ms. M. Dowrich or Ms. R. Kalicharan at the school.
Common Sense Parenting
This programme starts on September 08, 2012 in the Seminar Room at school. The session will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and those of you who have not yet registered can do so then. The cost is $200. per person.
Assessments and Examinations
This term all students will receive a report in December based on continuous assessment out of 100. All students will be writing an end of term exam from February 18, 2013 to March 08, 2013. This examination will be based on all work covered from September 2012. Forms 1, 2, 3 and 4 will receive a mark which consists of twenty five percent course work and seventy five percent exam mark.
Before I outline the calendar of events and present the external examinations results, I wish to thank you for your continued support as we work together in the interest of your daughters.
I speak on behalf of all staff and the Board when I say that we look forward to working with you in striving to provide your child with an excellent education. We believe the school''s balance of academics, values, and faith offers an excellent option for you and your family.
Yours sincerely,
Dinna M. Bainey
Principal (Secondary)
