HISTORY: The house of St. Xavier was established in memory of St. Francis Xavier.

St. Francis Xavier was a pioneering Roman Catholic missionary and co-founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesus Order). The Roman Catholic Church believes that he has converted more people to Christianity than anyone since St. Paul. St. Francis Xavier is considered to be the greatest missionary since the time of the Apostles because of the zeal he displayed, the wonderful miracles he performed and the great number of souls he brought to the light of true faith. He died on December 3rd which is now celebrated as his feast day.

St. Xavier, represented by the colour green at St. Joseph’s Convent, is known as one of the most consistent houses with our strong point being parang at our school’s annual Song and Dance Competition. Our House Song was written by one of the former captains of St. Xavier, Lois Lewis.

The captain and vice captain are students from the lower six form with positive attitudes which are adopted by all the members of the house. The members’ commitment to the house is extraordinary; there is a great deal of team spirit and a strong sense of belonging. These attitudes help us to build on the foundation laid by our patron saint, St. Xavier.

A Passion for Excellence

St. Joseph Convent, San Fernando

As members of St. Xavier
We pledge to be apostles like St. Xavier
Kind and cheerful be
Help and share knowledge
Do it all with a smile
To try and cheer up others
So to make our lives worthwhile.

Fired by God’s power
Coming from above
We have the gift of courage
Spreading His love
Members of St. Xavier
Bold and brave are we
Never hindered by an obstacle
We excel for all to see.

Tact and nobility, daring and tenacity
Students just and true are we
We’ll spread it everywhere.

We members of St. Xavier
No matter where we go
Will always do our utmost
To let our goodwill show
For members near and far away
Are always proud to say
That we take all our attitudes
From our Great, oh yes
Our great, St. Xavier.

Anne Marie Javouhey was born on November 11th 1779 in Southern France during a tumultuous period of the church’s history. ', '

Affectionately called “Nanette”, she dedicated her life to the accomplishment of God’s will at the early age of eighteen and from then, consecrated herself totally to His service. With strong will and determination, and against great persecution, she founded the Congregation of St. Joseph of Cluny in 1807 to engage in teaching and administering help and hope to the aged and infirm. This missionary order expanded rapidly within the region and eventually to other parts of the world, where they established schools, hospitals and other institutions.

In Trinidad and Tobago, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny continued Anne Marie’s mission and founded St. Joseph’s Convent, San Fernando in 1882, among other schools. After her death in 1851, Anne Marie was beatified by Pius XII in 1950 and she continues to be celebrated as the foundress of our school and proudly emulated as the patron saint of Blessed Anne Marie’s house as echoed in her words:

“May God be glorified… in everything and everywhere may His Holy Will be done!"

There was a woman, who loved the Lord
And unto Him, she gave her all.
He had a mission, for a woman of vision,
And Anne Marie, heeded His call.
She lent a hand, to those orphaned,
And gave instruction to the poor.
She loved and taught, and oneness sought
Hoping to bind man, forever more.

O Anne Marie, we’ll be like you
Forever strong, forever true.
We’ll love the Lord with all our hearts
And promise now, to do our part.
To make the world a better place,
To love and unite the human race.
O Anne Marie, we’ll follow your lead
And with the love of God, we will succeed.

Now we the young, who’ve just begun
For excellence, we all must strive.
We learn and teach, to others reach,
We must keep the dream alive.
Her gift of love, from up above
Will lead and guide us on our way.
Ours is the future, let’s make it sure,
Blessed Anne Marie’s foundations laid.

St. Theresa House

HISTORY:St. Therese of Lisieux is the patron saint of St. Theresa’s House. ', '

She was a French Camelite nun, and although she lived only a short life, she touched the hearts and souls of many. She followed the little way of devotion by performing humble everyday tasks for others. St. Therese’s symbol is the rose, a symbol adopted by St. Theresa’s House. St. Therese, “the little flower”, is often represented in art carrying roses in reference to her promise: “After my death, I will let fall a shower of roses.”

As members of St. Theresa
We strive to follow her,
We’ll be people of unity
Together as one community.
We all have different goals
But we shall always play our roles
We are all artists in this world
Each painting a picture of our own.

Pride in our hearts
Standing together
Spreading the spirit of living
Working as one
Helping each other
Proud to be a part of St. Theresa.

The world is rough and wide
But from it we’ll never hide
We may often set the pace
But not always win the race
Yes, from a fall we’ll rise
In this ever changing world
There are few who stand firmly
And walk the paths towards their goal.

St. Joseph House

Patron Saint:- St. Joseph (Wonder worker and Foster Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ)

St. Joseph, an adroit carpenter, was a pure and gentle man who also serves as the patron of the Universal Church. He obeyed the call of an Angel and took Mary as his wife. March 19th is celebrated as the Feast Day in his honour.

St. Joseph

St. Joseph, St. Joseph
A love we can’t express
A feeling that’s so real in our hearts
St. Joseph, St. Joseph
A love we can’t express
A feeling in our hearts, in our hearts
In our hearts we are proud to be as one,
For together, we’ll try to follow you.

Verse 1

St. Joseph, the trust we have in you
To our house, we’ll always be true
For we believe in you
And so we’ll try to honour you in all we do.

Verse 2

St. Joseph, give us the strength to be
Daghters who will always be there
For those in need, of love and care
A thoughtful word, or just a smile.

History – The name “Notre Dame” is French for ‘Our Lady’, Mary the patron saint of this house.

‘The blessed Virgin’, ‘Queen of the Holy Rosary’ and ‘Mother of God’ are a few of the many titles she holds, which shows her importance to us. A member of Notre Dame therefore makes every effort to uphold Her virtues of wholesomeness of thought, word and deed whereby she may be a luminary in society.

At about age sixteen, the angel Gabriel revealed to ‘Our Lady’ that she was chosen by God to be the mother of His Son, Jesus Christ. Realising that this was a call to a higher purpose, she yielded to the will of God with the words “Be it done to me according to thy word”. This act exemplified the selfless nature of a life given to service in the hopes of bettering the wider society.

Throughout her life Mary demonstrated wisdom, peace, strength though adversity and integrity, in addition to being immune from every personal sin. These are the qualities the members of Notre Dame strive to embody.

Since the introduction of the House system in 1987 Notre Dame has proven itself to be a powerful force in inter house events time and time again. Past members have moved on to become key players in the nation’s leading corporations. The highlight of our achievements this year was winning best Overall House on Sports Day 2008. This victory was in honour of one of our most dedicated supporters and committed House Mistresses Joandra Archer-Charles, who left us to be with the Lord earlier this year. Had she been with us, this well-loved French and English teacher would have proudly joined us in singing the following lines from our House Song: “Nous Triomphons sur les autres. Et pourquoi? Nous sommes les meilleures”

Notre Dame House Flag

Chanson de Notre Dame
« Above the clouds we’ll soar »

1. We stand firm full of confidence
To be called ‘les enfants de Notre Dame’ grace and strength
For we have what it takes, the best
And we work together,
No matter what
Notre Dame House Logo 2. Our Mother, full of peace,
grace and strength
Teach us wisdom, teach us love
Give us strength from above
O Mary, Queen of Heaven,
Peaceful dove
3. Le jour de gloire est arrivé
sans doute
Nous avons la victoire à
Notre équipe. Comme toujours
nous triomphons sur les autres.
Et pourquoi ?
Nous sommes les meilleures
Les meilleures

4. In this house we have faith in each other
And we share what we have willingly
For we know we’ll win when we are together
And true love in our hearts gives us bliss
